Advisor: Come in and take a seat.

Student: Thank you.

Advisor: Now you’ve made an appointment to see me with regard to one of the papers You want to enroll next semester.

Student: Yes, that’s right. It’s the globalization and educational change paper. GEC692

Advisor: Ah well, I know the one you mean, But all the code numbers are going to change next semester. So although the course name will stay the same, the code will be  Q21 ED995. Not that you have to worry about that.

Student: But the content will be the same rights.

Advisor: Oh, yes. To a large extent, the objectives are still to provide you with the skills and knowledge for analyzing the challenges that globalization poses for education.

Student: Yes, that’s what I’m really interested in. The future of education. No where we are now, but where we’re heading

Advisor: Well, you’ll most likely enjoy the course because it will give you the opportunity not just to explore, but also to Q22 document the advancement of new educational developments.

Student: And will be quite a lot of analysis involved.

Advisor: Yes, obviously. But once you’ve examined how education has been affected by cultural values and Q23 socio-economic structures, you’ll go on to debate the pros and cons of the restructuring of public education in view of rapid globalization.

Student: I see. But when you say public education, do you mean worldwide?

Advisor: No, no, that would be far too large an undertaking for just one paper. You’d probably choose to work with the education system within your own state or country.

Student: Sounds interesting, but isn’t it a bit restrictive?

Advisor: Not at all. From there, you’d move on to explore the Q24 impact of internationalization on curriculum diversity in both developing and developed countries. Have you had a chance to look at the assessment criteria yet?

Student: Actually, I have, and it makes me a bit nervous just thinking about it.

Advisor: Why is that? Well, I see that the first assignment starts with an illustrated PowerPoint presentation to the rest of the class. I’ve never done one before.

Advisor: No need to worry you can get help with that. Anyway, this presentation isn’t braided. It’s what we call a formative assessment. The feedback you get will help you to finalize the Q25 written review.

Student: That’s a review off those academic articles in the first part of the reading list, right?

Advisor: Yes, but you only have to choose five of them. That first assignment is worth 30%.

Student: And the second assignment?

Advisor: There are two parts to that also and both are graded. 20 marks will go towards your participation in a Q26 seminar and then there’s a 5000 word essay which will be graded out of 50.

Student: Thanks.

Advisor: Is there anything else I can help you with?

Speaker 2:
Yes. The reading list is quite long. Where do you think I should start?

Advisor: Well, I’d suggest you leave the articles until the semester is underway. But a good preparation would be to look at some of the major texts. These ones here.

Student: In any particular order.

Advisor: You could start with this one by tower here at the bottom of the page.

Student: Sorry, who?

Advisor: Q27 Tower (T O W E R) 2007 Comparative education that should give you a good basis. Then move on to Elliot Educational issues of the new millennium. But be sure to get the Q28 2008 edition, not the original 1998 edition, because so much has changed since 1998. The new edition has extensive revisions on a lot of new material.

Student: Okay, so that’s Tower first, then Elliot. I think I could handle a couple more over the summer break.

Advisor: Well, in that case, look for Brown’s Education and Globalization, published in 2009. Actually, there are quite a few books by Q29 Brown, but I’d start with that one and leave his others till much later and are also really recommend this one here, Globalization and Q30 Knowledge Policy by York, published quite recently in fact, 2010.

IELTS LISTENING Presentation Discussion listening practice test has 10 questions belong to the Education & Academic Discussion.

Joe: Hi, Martin. Hi, Angela.

Martin: Hi, Joe.

Angela: Yeah, Hi, Joe. So you really worried about your presentation? The one about names?

Joe: I am. Well, you know your stuff on names pretty well, So it’s just a question of selecting what you want to use. That’s right. But there’s so much you don’t have to include everything. Let’s start somewhere. Well, for example, Q21 there’s a lot to discuss about people’s names in terms of culture.

Angela: It would be a good way to start bringing in issues of religion, society.

Joe: I thought so.

Martin: As long as you can keep it concise. Since it’s potentially a large area.

Joe: I’ll pick out some key points.

Angela: Good. Now that will tend to be about differences. Q22 What about something on ways in which naming practices they are often similar across different languages?

Joe: Umm.. that sounds good.

Martin: I’m not sure how much I could say that’s really about just names are not really general language.

Angela: Maybe you need to give that some more thought.

Martin: Yes, I’m not ruling it out. Well, what about what first names mean?

Joe: That’s got to be specific. Two languages or language groups?

Martin: Yes, there are all sorts of different principles at work. It’s a rich area for discussion.

Angela: And you can present lots of examples.

Martin: It would mean a good slide or two. I’ll enjoy making those up.

Joe: Q23 Don’t forget to put our names in.

Martin: No. Okay. Right where we got up to. Yes, Now there’s the question of place names.

Angela: Ones where Q24 the name of the place is the word for the situation. Like something to do with sea or mountain, etc.

Martin: Yes. People often don’t realize the origin.

Joe: It sounds like it’s just a translation issue to me. Don’t you think you might give that a miss?

Martin: Given the time limit? Perhaps you’re right.

Angela: You need something on place names. Could you get history in?

Martin: Actually, the way migrants often used to name places after somewhere in their country of origin is interesting.

Joe: Sounds a bit narrow to me.

Martin: Well, I’d hoped to build it up a bit.

Angela: Perhaps you should make a final decision on that later.

Martin: Okay, I’ll see how the rest of it goes first.

Joe: Is that the lot?

Martin: No. There’s still country names, the origins of those. I think that’s an interesting area.

Angela: Yeah, because it’s something we often don’t think about.

Joe: It would be a way to bring in various aspects history certainly.

Martin: I could project a map of the world and have people match the original meanings to the countries.

Angela: well, that seems to be a foregone conclusion.

Joe: Fine.

Martin: Yes I’m feeling clear already.

You know, there’s another aspect that I think I’ll cover.

Joe: Yes

Martin: brand names.

Angela: Isn’t that more to do with business studies?

Martin: Well, international companies are finding it increasingly important to have brand names that could be used in many different countries.

Joe: Oh, so they can advertise the same product everywhere?

Martin: Yes, and it seems that brand names are very special in our brains.

Angela: How so?

Martin: Well, there was a research study recently carried out on a group of about 50 students. They showed them 108 words and the students had to say whether they recognized them as real words or not. The list included all mixed-up, ordinary nowns, brand names, and Q27 meaningless words, and they were shown all the words quickly, and the brand names seemed to be recognized strongly and in the emotional right-hand side of the brain. It was interesting that the brand names were recognized more readily if they were displayed in Q28 capital letters rather than lowercase something which doesn’t apply to normal words.

Joe: How strange. What else did the researchers find out?

Martin: Of course, it’s a relatively small study, but they suspect that other visual features apply and so for example, Q29 color has a major effect in helping us to store brand names in a special way in our brains.

Angela: I suppose that’s logical, but what do you will they mean by a special way?

Martin: I’m not saying I understood everything about this study, of course not, but they seem to be saying that the power of brand names is that the conjure up a range of Q30 associations inside our brains, more so than ordinary words or names do.

Joe: I guess this is great news for international companies. Potentially certainly

Martin: Though exactly what they…

IELTS LISTENING – Run-well Charity S40T2

IELTS SIMULATOR ONLINE ACADEMIC LISTENING - Run-well Charity S40AT2 FREE COMPUTER DELIVERED ONLINE IELTS SIMULATION
IELTS Listening – Run-well Charity Event and Fundraising listening practice test has 10 questions belong to the Talk about a Charity Event (Run-Well)

Lecturer :

I’m very pleased to have this opportunity to tell you something about the run-well charity on the work we do. I’ll give a brief overview of what we do and I hope you may be able to help on. Then there’ll be time for questions at the end.

Run-wells founder Mike Hughes took up long-distance running in 1987 raising money by doing sponsored half marathons and in Q11 1992 established the charity as we know it today.

By 1997 the runs were being filmed by local TV and today they appear on national TV every year. All the funds collected by run- well go to the Q12 hospital with the idea that those fit enough to run use their energy to assist the provision of people who are unwell for whatever reason.

Now, if you want to race and I assume that’s why many of you are here. Let me explain a couple of the basics. Races are run by teams, so you need to form and register a team. What you wear to run in is up to you and I know some teams come up with some pretty wacky ideas. We have a standard design for your Q13 numbers, which we ask you to reproduce, so you make them up. According to that standard. We don’t want to spend valuable funds on doing that ourselves.

Now the race is run as a kind of relay. So while you won’t actually compete side by side, we do recommend that you Q14 train as a group. This helps to optimize performance on build team spirit. It will also give you a fair idea of how much you need to eat and drink over the race distance. This is clearly essential for an effective performance, so please make sure you come along to the race with sufficient Q15 food and drink.

Again, we don’t spend money on providing that but you do need to keep yourself going for the 20-kilometer course. The course goes through the town, then out through High Field Park, concluding in the Q16 main square where the applauding Spectators will be ready to greet you. There are many different prizes, including oldest runner, youngest runner, team with the most sponsorship, team with the best costume that one’s donated by Zoom fashions. The mayor will introduce the Q17 minister for health, who will hand over each prize to the winners, and then the hospital president will make a short speech.

Okay, that’s the big race. But I know there are many people who don’t feel they are up to running a 20-kilometer race, but who would nevertheless like to raise money for run-well. Over the years, we’ve had experience of many ways of trying to collect money, some very successful others less so.

Now, Of course, 20 kilometers is too far for Children to run, but there was a sponsored Q18 swimming event at the local school last year and that did very well. People have also tried to organize food-based events such as selling, homemade cakes, and bread, and so at the market and there was a large picnic arranged in four bright gardens. Although these events failed to justify the efforts put into them, though I’m sure they were very tasty.

These days so many people are out of work all day that going from house to house to collect money isn’t very effective. But it is possible to raise useful funds by selling small promotional items such as Q19 badges with the run well motif on them. We’re currently checking to see if postcards, perhaps showing the races winners each year, might also be a good idea or not. We do appreciate the efforts that have gone into selling second-hand goods, but to be honest, the returns have not been very high on this.

One very dedicated group organized a team Q20 quiz recently, which went very well on. It would be good to see more such activities. There’s also been talk of a concert, but we’ll have to see how plans for that progress. Now, Are there any questions at this stage…

IELTS LISTENING – Active Outdoor Club S39T2

IELTS SIMULATOR ONLINE GENERAL TRAINING IELTS LISTENING- Active Outdoor Club S31GT2 FREE COMPUTER DELIVERED ONLINE
IELTS listening Active Outdoor Club listening practice test has 10 questions belongs to the Club & Community Group Introduction.

Women:

I’d like to welcome you all to our active outdoor club. I’ll start by telling you a little bit about the history of the club and all body can offer. Q11 There will be a chance for you to ask questions over tea and coffee in the lobby afterwards. You’ll also be able to pick up pamphlets from the table at the back of the hall. And if you wish to purchase any of our products, Bill will serve you at the front counter, as most of you probably know the club was founded by Nick Noble about 30 years ago.

He thought of placing an advertisement in the local newspaper or erecting a billboard somewhere but Q12 it was the radio that he decided on to reach the most people. You know, other people who might be interested in outdoor pursuits, just basic activities like walking or tramping anything active that could take place in some of the beautiful outdoor settings that this country has to offer.

Q13 Nick was overwhelmed by the response he got, and the club soon grew from a dozen or so friends and enthusiasts to around 200 members 20 years ago and steadily since then to reach a membership of over 2500 now. You don’t have to be a hard and athletes or extreme adventurer on the country, it’s a group that encourages friendship and fellowship through social and recreational activities. The club tries to cater for all levels of maturity and both genders. Q14 In fact, anyone who has the physical ability and a moderate level of health and fitness to participate in open-air activity on a regular basis. I think our youngest member is a five-year-old boy, and our oldest member is a 75-year-old man.

Of course, we have more challenging opportunities for those who are up to it. But all excursions are graded according to level of difficulty, and there will always be something for those families with small children. More about that later. I’m sure you realize that it’s part of the focus of the club to ensure that our natural environment is kept as pristine as possible. We all have a keen interest in conservation, and many of our members contribute their time or give a monetary donation to organizations that work to enhance and beautify our natural heritage.

Okay, now going back to the grades of activity. First of all, tramping. This is very popular with singles and couples without children, but it is certainly not restricted to those groups. Q15 Tramping is arranged for Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the year. Most tramps are of a duration of 3 to 5 hours, depending on the weather and the terrain. And, of course, the time of year. You would need to check the newsletter all the website to find out place and time. And if you wish to participate, phone the coordinator who could give you more information. I’ll move on now to Q16 walking, which is very popular with families but open to everyone, and walks are arranged for every Thursday and every Sunday over the course of the entire year. Walks last no more than three hours. Although the Thursday walks might be shorter and again, you would have to check the newsletter for details of the time and area to meet and get in touch with the walking Q17 organizer to confirm your participation.

Now the Wanderers are what you might call a subgroup off the active outdoor club. This group was set up to cater for the less active, more elderly or families with very young children who still want to enjoy the great outdoors, but without quite so much exertion. Very mind that the length of these activities is Q18 variable, but we’re always home before dark. Any member of the club is welcome to join in their activities on a Sunday, which includes visiting some of our more beautiful parks and botanical gardens, beach walks, picnics, and even boat trips to visit some of the small islands off the coast. Often guided tours can be arranged if there is enough interest. If you’d like to see what the Wanderers are up to, check the website and then phone the leader for more information.

I’ll beg you’re already for that cup of tea now, but before I finish, I really must mention something that could be a lot of fun, a great opportunity to form new or strengthen existing friendships and a chance to explore a part of the country that you may never have seen before.

These are our Q19 mystery weekends. The committee puts a lot of time and effort into the organization of these weekends away not only for health and safety reasons but also to ensure that everything runs smoothly and everyone has a good time. There will be a charge to cover travel and accommodation costs, but apart from that, it’s an affordable and exciting weekend away from the city. For more information call the Q20 chairman of the committee. You will find his phone number in the newsletter. So that’s all I want to say this point. Please enjoy the refreshments and check with others and feel free to ask questions. All the committee members are wearing a lot of red name batches so that easy to find.
