I’d like to welcome you all to our active outdoor club. I’ll start by telling you a little bit about the history of the club and all body can offer. Q11 There will be a chance for you to ask questions over tea and coffee in the lobby afterwards. You’ll also be able to pick up pamphlets from the table at the back of the hall. And if you wish to purchase any of our products, Bill will serve you at the front counter, as most of you probably know the club was founded by Nick Noble about 30 years ago.

He thought of placing an advertisement in the local newspaper or erecting a billboard somewhere but Q12 it was the radio that he decided on to reach the most people. You know, other people who might be interested in outdoor pursuits, just basic activities like walking or tramping anything active that could take place in some of the beautiful outdoor settings that this country has to offer.

Q13 Nick was overwhelmed by the response he got, and the club soon grew from a dozen or so friends and enthusiasts to around 200 members 20 years ago and steadily since then to reach a membership of over 2500 now. You don’t have to be a hard and athletes or extreme adventurer on the country, it’s a group that encourages friendship and fellowship through social and recreational activities. The club tries to cater for all levels of maturity and both genders. Q14 In fact, anyone who has the physical ability and a moderate level of health and fitness to participate in open-air activity on a regular basis. I think our youngest member is a five-year-old boy, and our oldest member is a 75-year-old man.

Of course, we have more challenging opportunities for those who are up to it. But all excursions are graded according to level of difficulty, and there will always be something for those families with small children. More about that later. I’m sure you realize that it’s part of the focus of the club to ensure that our natural environment is kept as pristine as possible. We all have a keen interest in conservation, and many of our members contribute their time or give a monetary donation to organizations that work to enhance and beautify our natural heritage.

Okay, now going back to the grades of activity. First of all, tramping. This is very popular with singles and couples without children, but it is certainly not restricted to those groups. Q15 Tramping is arranged for Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the year. Most tramps are of a duration of 3 to 5 hours, depending on the weather and the terrain. And, of course, the time of year. You would need to check the newsletter all the website to find out place and time. And if you wish to participate, phone the coordinator who could give you more information. I’ll move on now to Q16 walking, which is very popular with families but open to everyone, and walks are arranged for every Thursday and every Sunday over the course of the entire year. Walks last no more than three hours. Although the Thursday walks might be shorter and again, you would have to check the newsletter for details of the time and area to meet and get in touch with the walking Q17 organizer to confirm your participation.

Now the Wanderers are what you might call a subgroup off the active outdoor club. This group was set up to cater for the less active, more elderly or families with very young children who still want to enjoy the great outdoors, but without quite so much exertion. Very mind that the length of these activities is Q18 variable, but we’re always home before dark. Any member of the club is welcome to join in their activities on a Sunday, which includes visiting some of our more beautiful parks and botanical gardens, beach walks, picnics, and even boat trips to visit some of the small islands off the coast. Often guided tours can be arranged if there is enough interest. If you’d like to see what the Wanderers are up to, check the website and then phone the leader for more information.

I’ll beg you’re already for that cup of tea now, but before I finish, I really must mention something that could be a lot of fun, a great opportunity to form new or strengthen existing friendships and a chance to explore a part of the country that you may never have seen before.

These are our Q19 mystery weekends. The committee puts a lot of time and effort into the organization of these weekends away not only for health and safety reasons but also to ensure that everything runs smoothly and everyone has a good time. There will be a charge to cover travel and accommodation costs, but apart from that, it’s an affordable and exciting weekend away from the city. For more information call the Q20 chairman of the committee. You will find his phone number in the newsletter. So that’s all I want to say this point. Please enjoy the refreshments and check with others and feel free to ask questions. All the committee members are wearing a lot of red name batches so that easy to find.

Women: I have. And I’ve got the list here. Some of them do seem a good idea.

Agent: Which ones would you like to take?

Women: In terms of the hotel. The offer of picnic launches we leave that we rather go to cafes. I think a Q8 balcony for the room is a must. It’s so nice to sit out. Enjoying the view.

Agent: Oh, yes.

Women: And then the trips. I think we’ll pass on the night, Bosswant I never really enjoy the common trees. and museums aren’t really my sort of thing, to be honest, any more than dances.

Client: Ms. McKinley. Q1 Sylvia McKinley. Could you spell

Agent: your family name for me? please.

Client: It’s M-a-c-k-i-n-l-a-y.

Agent: Thank you. And your first name is Sylvia? Yes. Is that with an I or a Y?

Client: Oh. Y, the old-fashioned way? That’s S-y-l-v-i-a.

Agent: Thank you, Ms. McKinley. Now, just for our records. Can you tell me what country you live in?

Client: Of course it’s Q2 England. Actually.

Agent: I thought so. Now, when you coming?

Client: Well, at the moment we’re planning on arriving on July 26th.

Agent: Oh, the 25th. That’s the last day of the public holiday. And it might be difficult to find something available on that date.

Client: No, we’re coming on the Q3 26th of July.

Agent: Oh, well, that’s fine then we’ll have lots of good places vacant by then. Although you wouldn’t be able to move in until late afternoon because our cleaning crew will need time to get everything ready for you.

Client: That suit says our flight won’t get in until early evening anyway.

Agent: How many of you will that be?

Client: Just Q4 my sister and myself.

Agent: Ans how long do you intend to stay?

Client: Oh, only a couple of weeks. We’d like to stay longer but we’ll have to get back to work.

Agent: So you’re not coming on business, then?

Client: No, it’s just a Q5 holiday. Why? What difference does that make?

Agent: Oh, you’d be surprised. Business people have different needs, you know, wireless Internet, even fax machines and photocopiers.

Client: No, we won’t need any of that stuff. We’ll be coming to relax and get away from all that kind of thing.

Agent: Good. Now, what exactly are you looking for? A house, a duplex, or an apartment?

Client: What’s a duplex?

Agent: Oh, that’s what you might call a town, house, or a unit. You know, two houses semi-detached on the same property.

Client: Oh, I see. I think an Q6 apartment will suit us just fine.

Agent: And how many bedrooms, too?

Client: One or two? It depends on the size. My sister and I don’t mind sharing.
If it’s a decent-sized bedroom with two beds.

Agent: well, that makes it easier, and car parking. Will you require a lockup carriage? There are little hardest of find with an apartment.

Client: We’ll have a hire car. And as far as I know, there are no regulations concerning car parking. I think as long as it’s not parked on the street and did Q7 secure, there shouldn’t be any problems.

Agent: Okay, now I’m assuming you want something by the beach.

Client: Yes, that’s the idea. We want to enjoy the surf, sand, and sunshine.

Agent: Okay, But before we settle on an area and discuss your price range, I’ll need to know about other necessities.

Client: What do you mean?

Agent: Well, for example, do you want to be close to a shopping mall or the casino or the fun parks? Or do you want to be in a complex with or near a swimming pool?

Client: No, None of that really matters to us. But we’d like to have reasonable access to the Q8 motorway so that we can drive up to Brisbane to visit friends there.

Agent: Well, there are quite a few lovely small towns to choose from. There’s Main beach, which is north of surface paradise, or mermaid waters, which is a bit further south, or Palm Beach, which is quite a bit further South.

Client: Mermaid water sounds delightful. Is it close to the motorway?

Agent: Well, not really the M one is actually closest to Palm Beach, and prices are likely to be more reasonable there, too.

Client: That’s settled, then. Q9 Palm Beach. It is?

Agent: Now if you’ll just give me your email address, I can send you information about the town and lots of photos.

Client: Well, my email is smac13@hotmail.com

Agent: And one final thing. How much are you looking to spend per week on accommodation? Do you want something at the luxury end of the market? You know, newly redecorated, great views, Odomon cons?

Client: Not necessarily. Could we get something clean, comfortable, unreasonable for $1200 a week?

Agent: Could you stretch that $1500 a week? I have got a property in mind that you absolutely love but you will have to go $ Q10 1500. $1200 wouldn’t cover.

Client: Alright then that’s no top limit.

Agent: Good, I will get on to this straight away and there should be something in your inbox shortly.

IELTS LISTENING – LIONS S36T4

IELTS SIMULATOR ONLINE ACADEMIC IELTS LISTENING- LIONS S36AT4 FREE COMPUTER DELIVERED ONLINE

IELTS LISTENING LIONS  listening practice test has 10 questions belongs to the Wildlife & Conservation subject.

LECTURER:

Well, most people think that lions only come from Africa. And you would be forgiven for thinking this because in fact, most lions do come from africa. But this hasn’t always been the case. If we go back 10,000 years we would find that there were lions roaming vast sections of the globe. But now, unfortunately, only very small sections of the lions’ former habitat remain.

My particular interest is Asiatic lions, which are a subspecies of African lions. Q31 It’s almost a hundred thousand years since the Asiatic lions split off and developed as a sub-species. Q32 At one time the Asiatic lion was living as far west as Greece and they were found from then in a band that spread east through various countries of the Middle East, all the way to India. In museums, you can now see Greek coins that have clear images of the Asiatic lion on them. Most of them are dated at around 500 bc. However, Europe saw its last Q33 Asiatic lion roaming free 2,000 years ago. Over the next nineteen hundred years, the numbers of Asiatic lions in the other areas declined steadily, but it was only in the nineteenth century that they disappeared from everywhere but India.

So, how can you tell an Asiatic lion from an African lion, with which you’re probably more familiar? Well, in general, Asiatic lions are not as big as African lions. The colour is more or less the same, but the appearance of the mane is different – that’s the hair around the lion’s face and neck. The Asiatic lion’s mane is noticeably shorter than the African lion’s. Q34 Asiatic lions also have a long fold of skin on their underside, whereas not many African lions have this.

Well, I’d like to talk to you now about the Gir sanctuary in India. That’s where I’ve just come back from. The sanctuary was established specifically to protect the Asiatic lion.

It’s Q35 1,450 square kilometers an area and most of it is forest. There are now around three hundred Asiatic lions in India and almost all of them are in this sanctuary.

But despite living in a sanctuary, which makes them safe from hunters, they still face a number of problems that threaten their survival. One of these is the ever-present danger of Q36 disease. This is what killed more than a third of Africa’s Serengeti lions in 1994, and people are fearful that something similar could happen in the Gir Sanctuary and kill off many of the Asiatic lions there.

India’s lions are particularly vulnerable because they have a limited gene pool. The reason for this is interesting – it’s because all of them are descended from a few dozen that were saved by a Q37 prince who took a particular interest in them. He was very wealthy, and he managed to protect them – otherwise, they’d probably have Q38 died out completely.

When you see the Asiatic lion in India, what you sense is enormous vitality. They’re very impressive beasts and you would never guess that they had this vulnerability when you look at them.

The Asiatic lions don’t have the Gir Sanctuary to themselves, I should add. They actually share it with about two thousand farmers. A significant proportion of the lions’ diet is made up of the livestock of these farmers – goats, chickens, and so on – as much as a third, in fact. And they’ve even been known to Q39 attack humans, especially in times of drought.

One final piece of interesting information – in ancient India one of the greatest tests of Q40 leadership for a man was to fight a lion. Now it seems, in modern India, it will be a great test to see if the lion can be saved. I’m sure this is something that all of you will share concern for too.
