Privacy Policy
What we collect, why we collect it, and the control you have over it.
This policy explains how IELTS Simulator ("we", "us") handles personal data when you use our website and practice platform. It applies to everyone who visits the site, creates an account, or sits a mock test with us.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your name, email address and, if you contact us, your phone number.
- Password — stored only as a one-way cryptographic hash. We cannot read your password.
- Preferences — such as whether you're preparing for Academic or General Training.
Information created when you take a test
- Written responses — your Writing Task 1 and Task 2 essays.
- Audio recordings — your spoken answers in the Speaking module.
- Answers and results — your selections, band scores, and per-question history.
Information collected automatically
- Session data — a session cookie that keeps you logged in. This is strictly necessary for the site to function.
- Login records — IP address, browser user-agent and timestamps, kept for account security and abuse prevention.
2. How we use it
- To create and operate your account and keep you signed in.
- To deliver mock tests and generate your band scores and feedback.
- To maintain your test history so you can track progress.
- To process payments and apply purchased credits or plans.
- To respond to support requests you send us.
- To protect the platform against fraud, abuse and unauthorised access.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your essays or recordings for advertising.
3. AI evaluation and your test content
This is the part most people want to understand clearly, so we'll be specific.
When you submit a Writing or Speaking test, the content you produced — your essay text, or your audio recordings — is transmitted to Google's Gemini API for automated assessment. Google processes that content in order to return a band score, a transcript, and written feedback. This transfer is necessary to provide the evaluation feature; without it we cannot score those modules.
Your essays and recordings are also stored on our own servers so that you can revisit them in your test history.
4. Who we share it with
We share data only with service providers who help us run the platform:
- Google (Gemini API) — AI evaluation of Writing and Speaking submissions.
- Razorpay — payment processing. Card and banking details are handled by Razorpay directly; we never see or store your full card number.
- Google, Yandex, Facebook and X — only if you choose to sign in using one of those accounts, in which case we receive your basic profile and email address.
- Hostinger — website hosting and transactional email delivery.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so.
5. Guest accounts
Guest access lets you try the platform without registering. A temporary account is created with a system-generated identifier — we do not ask for your name or email. Guest sessions expire automatically after a maximum of 18 hours, after which the session ends and you must either register or start a new guest session. Guest activity is not linked to any permanent user profile.
6. How long we keep it
- Account data — for as long as your account remains open.
- Test results, essays and recordings — retained with your account so your history stays available, until you ask us to delete them.
- Payment records — retained as long as required for tax and accounting purposes.
- Guest data — expires with the guest session.
7. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- Give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct anything that's inaccurate.
- Delete your account and associated data.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
Email support@ieltssimulator.com and we'll action it. We may need to verify your identity first. If you are in India, these rights sit alongside those granted under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
8. Security
The site is served over HTTPS, passwords are stored hashed, and access to administrative systems is restricted and permission-controlled. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, and we will notify affected users of any breach that poses a significant risk to them.
